One of the newer ideas flushed out in Ken Wilber's new book is the idea of "Kosmic address". What is Kosmic address you might ask? Simply put it is a way of finding out what someone is talking about when they say the word "God".
Another way to look at is this...
Kosmic Address = altitude + perspective
"Altitude" refers to one's level of conscious development. Here's a chart representing altitude.

or...
If you start with the "Archaic" at 1 and move up from there you have the first part of your Kosmic address. "Magical World View" would be 2, "Egocentric" would be 3 and so on...
"Perspective" refers to the perspective that one takes toward their view of someone or something else. This is the second part of your Kosmic address for "god".
The general perspectives towards God are 1st Person "I", 2nd Person "Thou", and 3rd Person "It". There is also a 4th person perspective that can transcend and include each of the first three perspectives. The god of the 1st person is immanent in nature and the corresponding spirituality is a mystical one. The god of the 2nd person is personal in nature and the corresponding spirituality is a worshipful one. The god of the 3rd person is equivalent to Nature and the corresponding spirituality is scientific in nature. The god of the 4th person incorporates and transcends all of the first three views and the relationship is transpersonal in nature.
Now what does this have to do with Deism? Well, IMO Deism is a category of "belief" in "god" that is reason based... or one could say, a category of belief that starts with a Kosmic address of stage 5 or higher. Theism is a category of belief in "God" that is faith based or a category of belief that starts with a Kosmic address of stage 4 or lower.
So, someone like Thomas Jefferson would have a Kosmic address of 5/2.
Einstein's would be 6/3.
Ralph Waldo Emerson's would be something like 5/1 and 3.
Pat Robertson's would be 4/2.
So what's your Kosmic address?
