Here is a short piece by Dr. Stuart Hameroff, director of the University of Arizona's Center for Consciousness Studies and the father of the theory of quantum consciousness. He sounds very Deistic to me.

This is pretty esoteric stuff, but it's just another example of my contention that 21st century scientists are inadvertently stumbling into philosophical issues that used to be off-limits to any self-respecting empiricist.

I'll have to check-out "40 Hz gamma synchrony EEG (the best measurable correlate of consciousness)"

Penrose's idea of "quantum coherence/computation in brain microtubules" is way over my head. But maybe a popular science writer will eventually translate it into layman level concepts.

"Secular spirituality" seems to be an idea whose time has come. But if my understanding of human nature is correct, even that will eventually become dumbed-down into a popular religion for the masses. Would that still qualify as secular?
